Of rum, rains and cozy cocktails

Rum has always been a spirit that Indians have adored since time immemorial. No matter what time of the year, rum aficionados enjoy this spirit with their own and unique rituals.

This Rum Day, when the rains were upon us and our homes were warm and cosy, I whipped up a few easy-to-make cocktails that everyone can try at home. Make merry, upgrade your rum game, stay safe – and try out these wonders from products represented by Monika Enterprise!

 

Black Mojito

Mojitos are a staple in bars across the world. This Black Mojito is rare cocktail that is wonderfully both earthy and sharp.

  • Kraken Rum: 60 ml
  • Lime slices: 4
  • Mint leaves: 6-8
  • Sugar syrup: 25 ml
  • Soda: 60-90 ml

In a Collins glass, add mint leaves sugar and lime, muddle together. Add ice, rum and then top with soda.

 

Seeing Red

Originally made with vodka, this cocktail has been modified to perfectly blend the rich Kraken flavour with sweetness of pineapple juice, giving you a perfect tropical drink.

  • Kraken Rum: 60 ml
  • Lime juice: 15 ml
  • Pineapple juice: 90 ml
  • Grenadine: 5 ml

Fill a glass with crushed ice. Add ingredients to glass, except Grenadine. Stir. Add a splash of Grenadine on top. Serve.

 

Rum Punch

“One of Sour, two of Sweet, three of strong and four of week.

Serve well chilled over ice, top with a grinding of nutmeg spice.”

This classic cocktail has sailed with the sands of time. Simple ingredients that make the pallet go ‘Woo’!

  • Lime juice: 15 ml
  • Sugar syrup: 30 ml
  • Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva: 60 ml

Stir all the ingredients over ice till they are chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass, or into an Old Fashioned glass with ice. Garnish with a slice of lime and grated nutmeg.

 

Choco Colada

A chocolaty take on the classic Pina Colada. This variation, with its cacao and coconut flavours, enhance the Diplomatico goodness, delivering a velvety and robust drink.

  • Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva: 60 ml
  • Condensed milk: 30 ml
  • Coconut cream: 30 ml
  • Chocolate syrup: 15 ml

Shake all the ingredients with ice and strain into an Old Fashioned glass with ice. Garnish with a shaved coconut or shaved chocolate.
