For state governments to change the name to ‘Department of Excise’ from ‘Department of Excise & PROHIBITION’.
Who do you think sets the drinking trends in India?
While we tend to be inspired by the West, it is the well-travelled Indian who demands world class back in India. This will inevitably push companies to produce products that cater to that need, creating a trend. Craft beer is a classic example.
What is the most overrated drinking fad/drink in India at the moment?
Zero.point.Zero.
What is the next ‘big thing’ for India?
Building a business focused on sustainable and profitable growth, not for valuation.
What is the best motivation for your team?
Honesty, transparency, respect, humility and zero ego.
Which is your favourite liquor/beer brand advertising campaign?
Brewdog – they ran a T-shirt campaign with all the negative social media comments about them!
Which is your favourite bar/pub in India, and why?
It used to be Victoria Hotel and Dewars, but both those are not around anymore. I just loved the quintessentially Bangalore vibe from both those places. Today, I’d go to Bombay Canteen and Toast&Tonic – amazing food, ambience, selection and service.
Which of your competitors gives you sleepless nights?
We only compete against bad beer!

Water to hydrate, after drinking beer to forget that I’m alone on the island.
