New, clean-label tonics hit the shelves

New, clean-label tonics hit the shelves The plant-based, transparent tonics are crafted from household ingredients and are free from additives.

Mossant Fermentary, the innovative Bengaluru-based beverage brand, has made a significant leap forward with the introduction of its first clean-label tonics. This announcement was made during an exclusive pre-launch media event, setting the stage for a new era in health-conscious drinking.

Mossant Fermentary is renowned for its dedication to crafting better-for-you beverages, and their latest creation is a testament to this commitment. Their new line of tonics exemplifies their philosophy of creating a cleaner, more transparent product.

Designed to meet the growing demand for plant-based and transparent beverages, these tonics are crafted using household ingredients and are free from additives, thanks to Mossant’s proprietary technology. This includes advanced filtration and pasteurisation processes that ensure that the tonics maintain their quality and freshness.

Adithya Kidambi, Co-founder and CEO of Mossant Fermentary, shared his excitement about the new product line: “We believe in giving our consumers a better alternative to a soda without compromising on taste or flavour preferences. Crafting the world’s first clean-label tonics has been thrilling, and we’re super-excited about the Jalapeno tonic. It’s our way of putting the ‘fun’ in ‘fun-ctional!”

‘Clean’ labels

The new tonic range from Mossant includes four distinct flavours, each reflecting the brand’s commitment to clean and transparent ingredients. These tonics are designed to provide a refreshing and pure drinking experience.

The evening began with the Gin and Tonic, a timeless choice featuring Tanqueray No. 10 gin paired with Mossant’s original tonic. This classic blend is enriched with coriander seeds, all-spice berries, cardamom seeds and citrus peels, creating a refreshing and balanced drink that highlights the vibrant grapefruit notes.

Next, came the spicy Jalapeno tequila tonic. This bold cocktail combined the spicy kick of fresh jalapenos and pickled brine with Blanco tequila. The addition of an olive enhanced the savoury elements, making it a flavourful and low-sugar option perfect for those who appreciate a touch of heat.

The evening continued with the Rosemary infused Tonic, a cocktail that showcased the herbaceous qualities of Mossant’s rosemary tonic. Infused with fresh rosemary, this unique drink paired beautifully with gin or vodka, offering an aromatic and botanical twist that captivated the senses.

Finally, participants were treated to the Tropical Passionfruit rum punch. This vibrant cocktail featured Mossant’s passionfruit tonic, made with ripe passionfruit from Wayanad and was paired with Jamaican rum. The combination of tropical sweetness and rich rum flavours created a refreshing and exotic drink, perfect for a celebratory mood.

Shishir Sathyan, Co-Founder of Mossant Fermentary, emphasized the brand’s philosophy behind these products: “We believe that beverages should be fun to drink but are also better for you. Our new line of tonics is low in sugar, made from high-quality ingredients, and we’re enthusiastic to bring this to the market.”

Kombucha to tonics

Founded in October 2019, Mossant Fermentary initially focused on kombucha. Shishir Sathyan, who shifted from a corporate finance career in Australia to explore his passion for beverages, began brewing kombucha at home.

“We felt like there’s a lot of potential in making a carbonated soda sort of alternative and kombucha felt like it was the right medium,” Shishir explained. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, which initially disrupted their strategy, the rise in interest for alternative beverages during lockdowns provided an unexpected boost to their visibility.

Expanding beyond kombucha, Mossant identified a gap in the tonic market, leading them to develop a range of artisanal tonics. “We saw a need in the alcohol space that needed to be filled,” Adithya noted. Mossant’s tonics, crafted with Indian botanicals, aim to offer a superior alternative to mainstream options.

Bottled in 200 ml, the tonics retail for ?99 each, and have a shelf life of 6 months. Monsant Fermentary’s 15 kombuchas are also available on various e-commerce platforms, including Swiggy Instamart (across 28 cities), Blinkit, Big Basket, Nature’s Basket and Amazon, and select restaurants across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Mysore, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
