Raise your glass to a cause

What is Negroni Week all about?

Did you know that the Negroni Week is being held from 24 to 30 June this year? The event was started by Imbibe magazine and Campari in 2013, and is a celebration of one of the world’s great cocktails.

It is also an effort to raise money for charities around the world. Since 2013, for one week every June, bar and restaurants mix classic Negronis and Negroni variations for the cause. Today, it has grown from about 120 participating venues to almost 10,000 venues around the world.

For the uninitiated, a Negroni is a cocktail that comprises equal parts of three ingredients: Campari, which is a perfect blend of bitter herbs, aromatic plants, fruit and alcohol, along with gin and sweet vermouth.

One of the world’s most iconic classic cocktails, the Negroni was purportedly invented at Caffe? Casoni in Florence, Italy, when Count Camillo Negroni asked for a bolder retelling of his favourite cocktail, the Americano, with gin replacing soda water!

After the success of the cocktail the Negroni family founded Negroni Distillerie in Treviso in 1919 and produced a readymade version of the drink, named Antico Negroni.
