‘I’m biased towards cigar bars’

I’m biased towards cigar bars

Anish Trivedi, avowed whisky and cigar evangelist, and a former brand ambassador for Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, Glenfiddich and The Balvenie.

My favourite drink memory?

I guess it would have to be that third bottle of wine, after which I proposed to the woman who became my wife! That was the old Apollo Bar at the Taj in Mumbai.

My favourite bar…

The Garden Room at the Lanesborough, London. But I’m biased. It’s also one of the best cigar bars in the world.

My favourite spirit…

Glenfiddich 15-year-old. The Solera process makes it a consistently complex, delightful whisky. It’s become my standard pour.

My favourite cocktail?

Still the classic, dry Martini. It’s appropriate, whether it’s afternoon, evening or night.

Best city to drink in is…

Amsterdam, because there’s always something open somewhere.

Best bottle I’ve been given was…

The Balvenie 1961, bottled at 50 years!

We need more women behind the bar because…

What?! You never saw Coyote Ugly?! Kidding aside, if you’re still living in the 17th century and wondering why, you’ve missed out on some of the best distillers and mixologists I’ve met – all women.

Plastic straws are…

Still around??!! Where?! Why?!

My favourite bartender…

Is someone who doesn’t want to share his/her story; doesn’t want to hear mine; just pours me the drink I want; and keeps a close eye on when it needs refreshing.

Whisky is for…

Celebration, contemplation, companionship, laughter, tears… Oh, it’s an unending list!

My favourite bar accessory…

It’s the Glen Cairn glass.

Favourite drinking game?

The last drinking game I played was Quarters; so that should tell you how long it’s been.
