The launch of Yaakay Bar & Canteen in Sahakar Nagar drew packed crowds and set the tone for what many are already calling Bengaluru’s newest go-to ‘adda’. While the city’s bars have increasingly moved towards premium positioning, curated theatrics and higher pricing to stand apart, Yaakay has counter intuitively moved in the opposite direction.
Building a vibrant local-first neighbourhood bar experience with accessible prices, familiar flavours, and a space that feels like part of the community, it is a strategy that is also seen in the popular Bengaluru restaurant, Bob’s Bar.
The new venue comes from Byg Ventures, the group behind Bob’s Bar and Byg Brewski, and extends the philosophy that honest value and comfort matter as much as novelty in modern Indian social spaces.
Positioned as a Bengaluru-first concept that celebrates everything close to home – language, culinary culture, humour and the ease of everyday social outings – Yaakay embraces the “tea shop meets easy bar” sensibility. The space is warm, high-energy and unmistakably rooted in the city’s attitude.
Phrases on the walls, local slang, simple food made flavourful, familiar drinks without craft cocktail performance – everything is built to recreate a homegrown bar culture that represents the city’s personality rather than replicate global ones.

The menu leans heavily into Karnataka’s earthy and indulgent flavour cues with signatures like Naati Koli curry, Shevige chicken biryani, Kothu parota and Rebel Star mutton fry, alongside seasonal regional staples like jackfruit seed ghee roast.
The launch also reinforces the strategic direction of Byg Ventures as they scale their portfolio into national relevance while staying emotionally anchored in what works locally.
The founder sees Yaakay as a format that can successfully travel across India without losing the cultural warmth and relatability of its Bengaluru origins. “With Yaakay, we wanted to reimagine the neighbourhood bar for today’s Bengaluru, rooted in local flavour, built for real people, and designed for everyday comfort,” said Ajay Gowda.
With 11 operational venues and aggressive expansion across Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and select Tier-II markets, Byg Ventures aims to scale to 18 outlets with ₹500 crore revenue by FY25-26.
Yaakay is positioned to be a significant part of this journey, representing the shift back to simplicity, value, identity and belonging in Indian drinking culture.
