The Macallan and Bentley Motors recently unveiled ‘The Macallan Horizon’, an exclusive Scotch whisky, merges tradition and precision engineering. Celebrating The Macallan’s 200-year legacy, this limited edition features a unique vessel symbolising the automotive world’s trajectory.
Crafted in collaboration with Bentley Motors, the expertly crafted single malt Scotch whisky is presented in a visionary horizontal vessel that features a unique 180-degree twist detail. It demonstrates an unparalleled approach to product innovation and design and reflects the horizontal trajectory of the automotive world.
The Macallan Horizon is presented in a unique bespoke glass vessel, designed to be displayed horizontally. An aluminium ribbon envelops the glass and is precision engineered to Bentley’s exacting standards, in homage to this key material used in the sculptural foundation and bodywork of a Bentley motorcar.
The vessel is encased in a sculpture lined with the finest low carbon leather, in a chestnut colourway to ornately finish and protect the whisky. The precision-engineered copper frame encompasses recycled copper, sourced from The Macallan’s former stills utilised before the unveiling of its renowned distillery in 2019.
Another material integral to both brands is included through an inlay of oak wood on the closure. This is crafted from one of the six casks used in the maturation of this whisky. The sixth and final component is the sophisticated and bold single malt Scotch whisky which has been created exclusively for The Macallan Horizon.
Six individual casks have been selected from the stocks maturing in the warehouses on the Macallan Estate. Rich and indulgent dried fruit and spice flavour notes, balanced with oak and leather make a perfect blend. The whisky’s rich and long-lasting finish also mirrors the car’s timeless quality and design, resulting in a true stimulation of the senses through taste and texture.
The Macallan is no stranger to six- and seven-digit price tags. In 2022, The Macallan Reach became the oldest-ever Scotch whisky release and retailed for US$125,000. The following year, the distillery’s Adami 1926 vintage fetched an auction price of US$2.7 million. The Horizon (bottled at 46% ABV) is now available at select retailers across the world for a whopping US$51,274.
Dark mahogany in colour, on the nose it is resinous polished oak with plums and dark cherries, alongside aromatic fresh leather and herbal, leafy note. An abundance of dried fruits follow: sticky dates, raisins and sultanas leading on to sweet cinnamon, and nutmeg with a hint of cloves.
On the palate, it is wonderfully rich and indulgent. Dark treacle notes with cinder toffee, crystalised ginger and charred pineapple. Sweet vanilla pods and fudge develop, followed by dark chocolate-coated Brazil nuts and a warming oak spice. The finish is rich oak, long and complex.
